Current Job Opening: Food Science Lab Technician
SUMMARY:
The Food Science Lab Technician will be responsible for the development or duplication of product including the preparation of proper and compliant label copy. The Lab Tech will report to the Product Development and Technical Service Manager. It is expected that 100% of the products leaving our plant will meet or exceed customers' specifications and were manufactured and packaged in compliance with Title 21 CFR Parts 101, 111, and 117. The Lab Tech will work with Customers to ensures all customer’s labels are compliant,
Responsibilities:
Responsible for Product Research and Development of new food mix and/or improvement of existing products to meet strategic business objectives.
Organize and coordinate information and activities related to various phases of product development from initial bench top, and plant-size scale-up to commercial launch while considering technical issues such as food safety, stability, shelf-life, scalability, cost, nutritional labeling, and proper guidelines.
Sourcing and Evaluate and proposed alternate ingredients that may be used in existing products, which can lead to better functionality, processing, and cost savings. The new ingredient approvable will include making sure the specifications are properly entered into our product development software.
Will aid in the approving process review for the Certificate of Analysis along with nutritional information for each raw material received into inventory, as well as, establishing and maintaining a deviation database of each Certificate of Analysis so these results can be used and entered into our database.
Strong understating of the regulations under Title 21 CFR, Parts 101, 111, and 117. Be responsible for preparing proposed label.
Basic knowledge of various packaging technologies and be able to measure proper sizing of the finished product including sizing of the can, jar, scoop, and packet.
Ability to work with other department heads that include Sales & Marketing, Operations, Compliance and Regulatory, Purchasing, and Accounting as well as people junior or senior to the incumbent manager.
Will aid in the resolution of product issues and customer inquiries. Follow through with customers on product issues or complaints and communicate with other departments regarding the outcome of the investigation.
Build a solid business relationship with customers and vendors and the production department.
Monitors and provide support to the production staff on production run days and assures proper work order documentation when any changes are made.
Help create proper forms, reports, and any changes to work orders. Aid in the written protocol for proper samples are pulled and submitted for Quality testing.
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe product development kitchen/lab area.
Aid in the sourcing and approval of raw materials, obtaining price quotes, requesting and utilizing all vendor documentation, and inputting the information into our lab formulation software.
Prepare technical documentation relevant to product development and commercialization, including, but not limited to quotations, Master Batch Records, Verification Protocols and Validation Protocols, prepare bulk labels, product labels coordination and prepare customer forms for approval and/or needed corrections, etc.
Ability to maintain a positive, professional, cooperative demeanor, and working relationship with peers, management, and other people that will interact with this position.
Ability to investigate and then solve complex problems and manufacturing issues and aid in the plan to avoid future issues.
Possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to translate highly technical information into everyday language for clear and understandable communication.
The candidate shall be a self-starter with a positive attitude who can work independently, a good problem-solver, and a quality decision-maker.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Food Science, Nutrition, or other related Science field, and a Minimum of two years product development and related quality control and quality management & lab experience with manufacturing and regulatory experience and prior auditing experience preferred.
Mathematical skills with knowledge of conversion from standard to metric and vice versa.
Office skills and proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
